Indonesia Repent!
Zilhajj 02, 1431 A.H, Tuesday, November 09, 2010
Indonesia
is rocked by earthquakes, hit by tsunamis and major floods.
Disaster after disaster continues to strike this country.
Merapi up to now still keeps on spewing hot clouds, hitting
anything in its path. Are all these disasters still considered
as normal natural occurrences only? Doesn’t it cross our mind
that all this is a warning from Allah SWT, for all the Islamic
ummah of Indonesia so that they must return to Him,
return to Islam, by applying all His rules? It’s time for
Indonesia to repent!
A Warning From Allah SWT
Sheikh Muhammad Rowi, an ulama’ from Cairo,
Egypt, said in “Musibah Dunya”:
I would like to remind, that earthquakes can occur anywhere.
And it is a reminder to all mankind so that they are aware
that this earth which Allah makes as a living place is subject
to the commands of Allah.
Therefore, do we still assume that all these disasters just
simply happen? Wouldn’t we be afraid and take lessons from all
those occurrences? Or we are just waiting until the
earthquakes and other calamities come back to hit us again?
Indeed, Allah SWT reminds those who are absent-minded, by
bringing His signs and warning.
“And We send not the signs except as
a warning.”
“Then, did the people of the cities feel secure from Our
punishment coming to them at night while they were asleep…?”
“Or did the people of the cities feel secure from Our
punishment coming to them in the morning while they were at
play?"
“Then, did they feel secure
from the plan of Allah? But no one feels secure from the plan
of Allah except the losing people.”
Thus were the verses of warning from Allah SWT in which the
realization could be in the form of earthquakes, tsunamis,
flash floods, hurricanes and the like. Mankind should
understand, especially the people of Indonesia in which the
majority of them are Muslims, that Allah SWT is angry with us
and He is deliberately giving all these signs to put fear in
us, to remind us, so that we wake up and immediately return to
Islam.
We Must Change Munkar!
Sheikh Umar Bakri Muhammad in “Kitabul Hisbah” explained that
there are some conditions that would occur if we abandon
amar ma’ruf nahi munkar, which include:
1. The Spread Of Immorality
With the abandonment of the amar ma’ruf nahi munkar,
then the munkar alias immorality will become
widespread. The society will be proud and the people are not
afraid of committing munkar anymore. They are not
afraid any longer of committing haram, kufr,
and even shirk. Today we can see the spreading of all
indecency and immorality such as liquor, pornography,
prostitution, rape, theft, talbis (covering haq with
the bathil) and shirk, freely and without any shame,
scattered from the small towns up to the big cities, without
even a bit of penalty.
2. The Coming Of Adzab From Allah SWT
Allah SWT has warned that the punishment from Him does not
only affect the people who commit sin but it will also befall
us, if we just remain silent. Allah SWT says:
“And fear a trial which will
not strike those who have wronged among you exclusively, and
know that Allah is severe in penalty.” (QS. Al-Anfal
(8) : 25)
Rasulullah SAW, said:
“By Him in Whose hand my soul
is, you mustenjoin what is good and forbid what is evil, or
Allah will certainly soon send punishment from Him to you.
Then you will make supplication and not receive any answer.”
(…the hadith was continued and he SAW., quoted the
verse)
“Cursed were those who
disbelieved among the Children of Israel by the tongue of
David and of Jesus, the son of Mary. That was because they
disobeyed and [habitually] transgressed. They used not to
prevent one another from wrongdoing that they did. How
wretched was that which they were doing.”
(QS. Al-Maidah (5) : 78-79)
Allah SWT warns us not to leave this task (amar ma’ruf
nahi munkar) or Allah SWT will accelerate the punishment
for us in this life and later (on Judegment Day), and it
becomes the cause of punishment from Allah SWT.
Rasulullah SAW said:
“If someone sees a tyrannical
leader who make things that are prohibited to be allowed, who
violates the rights of Allah, who rules the people with what
Allah SWT has not revealed, without rising up to oppose him
with the words or actions, Allah SWT will punish him with that
tyrannical person.”
(HR. Ibnu Hibban)
3. The Emergence of Conflicts, Strifes and Discords
Abandoning this obligation will cause fitnah (fitnah
means kufr, shirk or it could be a trial
from Allah) between Muslims, the people will start to fight
each other, quarrel, and they will lose the criteria with what
they are supposed to adjudicate all issues.
4. The Enemies Will Overcome The Muslims
Rasulullah SAW and his Sahabahs taught us that we
would not win on the battlefield or war with (only) our
weapons or with our numbers, but also with our actions, our
Iman, Do’a and Tawakkal upon Allah
SWT. This was the reason why Umar Ibnu Khattab RA, when he
ordered the soldiers to strengthen themselves on the
battlefield, he had also sent a warning to them to look after
their deeds because it is the reason for victory.
Indeed, if we stop mutually advising each other, calling
towards goodness and forbidding munkar, we would
never win and Allah SWT will let us being dominated and
conquered by the enemy. Naudzu billah min dzalik!
5. Do’a Would Not Be Answered
Rasulullah SAW reminded us that Allah will not answer our
do’a if we let go or abandon the task of calling towards
goodness and the prevention of munkar (amar
ma’ruf nahi munkar). Rasulullah SAW said:
“By Him in Whose hand my soul
is, you mustenjoin what is good and forbid what is evil, or
Allah will certainly soon send punishment from Him to you.
Then you will make supplication and not receive any answer.”
(HR Tirmidzi)
6. Harsh Punishment In The Hereafter
Allah SWT promises to give severe punishment in the hereafter
if we abandon this da’wah, He SWT has warned us a lot
of time that we will be faced with punishments in hell if we
stop calling towards goodness and preventing munkar.
7. Poverty & Economic Crisis
Allah SWT promises misery if we do not obey Him and He informs
us that we are not going to lose our rizq for calling
towards goodness and forbidding munkar, as well as
informing us that we will be dealing with poverty and disaster
if we abandon it (amar ma'ruf nahi munkar).
8. Addicted To Munkar
If we do not prevent the people from doing munkar, it
would be easy for them to do so (munkar) until they
become addicted to perform all those munkar.
Changing The Fundamental Munkar
Which munkar is more of a priority to be immediately
eradicated? Indeed, munkar does not happen by itself
but always happen simultaneously with other munkar
and they cannot be changed at the same time, particularly if
we are dealing with the Fundamental Munkar, namely
the munkar that causes other munkaraat (pl.
of munkar).
Indeed, when we get up to call towards goodness and prevent
munkar, we must create a scale of which is a more
important priority. In this case, the Fundamental Munkar
(the root of munkar that causes other munkaraat)
is always higher and a priority over the Far’i Munkar
(the branches of munkar) to be eradicated first.
Indeed, if the man-made laws become common and at the same
time the womenfolk walk “naked” (not covering their awrah)
then our obligation is to give priority to shirk
rather than the man-made laws, and when we turn to the women
who do not cover their awrah, we must connect it to
the root cause i.e. the man-made laws.
Shirk is the greatest munkar and the cause
of other munkaraat.
“And We certainly sent to
every nation a messenger, [saying]: “Worship Allah (alone),
and avoid thaghut”. And among them were those whom Allah
guided, and among them were those upon whom error was
[deservedly] decreed. So proceed [i.e. travel] through the
earth and observe how was the end of the deniers.”
(QS An-Nahl (16) : 36)
Allah has set as a priority in da'wah the need to
change the society so that it is heading towards the pleasure
of Allah SWT. Allah SWT has shown us what the important
priority is i.e. shirk is the greatest (fundamental)
munkar and it becomes the cause of other
munkaraat. Due to that, we must expose and let go of
shirk and the man-made laws, with the aim to implement
the Islamic law.
Indonesia Repent!
Now, it is time that Indonesia repents! The multidimensional
crises experienced by this nation to this day require a
thorough solution and betterment at this instant. One year
since SBY-Boediono are at the helm of the government, it is
proven that they have failed to make the people of this nation
prosper. In fact, the country continues to be continuously
rocked and hit by disasters. All this is a warning and
punishment from Allah SWT for us the Muslims in this country,
to immediately return to the Islamic Shari'a, as the
one and only solution.
Indonesia Repent. The way is by means of making the
Shari'a of Islam as the one and only foundation in having
a state and managing all affairs, as well as making it as the
primary reference. The Shari'a of Islam should be the
law that governs this nation and makes the people come out of
the slump heading toward true justice and peace that are
essential.
This is the global solution for the various problems of the
nation which is now stricken by multi-dimensional crises and
afflicted by back-to-back misfortunes. Indonesia Repent is a
necessity and the one and only solution. Especially
considering the majority of the population of this country are
Muslims. Due to that, it becomes an obligation for the Islamic
ummah to struggle for the establishment of the
Shari'a of Islam in this country if they really want to
be safe in this dunya and the akhira.
Wallahu’alam bis sowab!
