The MILF Mujahideen Denied Their Commanders As Critical
03-09-2008
COTABATO – The MILF
Mujahideen denied the news that both its hardened commandants were in critical
conditions and that one of them was dead, due to a light arm conflict with the
Filipino military, Monday (1/9) yesterday.
“Commandant Kato and Bravo are in a very good condition,” Mohaqher Iqbal, the
MILF spokesman said in a telephone interview.
The claim made by the military was only a propaganda in order to discredit the
MILF. Iqbal said that the news about the death or the critical condition of
Bravo and Kato condition had been repeatedly spread by the media after every
firefight the Filipino military had with the Moro Mujahideen.
“I say with confidence that both of them are still alive,” Iqbal clarified.
Iqbal also informed that the MILF were at this time observing the beginning of
Ramadhan and they believed that the Ramadhan started on Monday yesterday.
Iqbal added that the MILF Mujahideen were determined not to surrender both of
its commandants to the government.
Lieutenant Colonel Julieto Ando, the spokesman of the Infantry Division 6
claimed that the MILF group under Kato's leadership were now on the run.
“We have found their trails, the law will catch up with them, sooner or later,”
Ando told the Filipino media.

The Moro Mujahideen Are Sceptical Over The Peace Offered By Arroyo
MINDANAO – The governments of the Philippines rejected the agreement to
recognize the autonomous regions of the Muslims in the Southern Philippines,
therefore it is impossible for the MILF Mujahideen to have a peace negotiation
with the government as it will only produce a useless agreement. This could be
proven by the introduction of the controversial memorandum (MOA-AD) which put
the position of the MILF into a corner.
The MILF was only asking for the autonomous regions of the Muslims to be
recognized, so that the Moro people could have a secure future for their
children. By administering their own territories they could end the Christian
government’s injustices such as the employment marginalization to the people
from outside Moro.
Mohagher Iqbal, the spokesman for MILF said that the MILF fighters would not
start over any talk with Malaysia (The International Observer Team) again except
if the Filipino government declared its agreement to recognize the autonomous
regions of the Muslims in the Southern Philippines. Talks had been done for so
many years before but it never achieved any concrete outcome hoped by the Muslim
Moro community.
Whereas the government of the Philippines had maintained that they would never
agree with the proposal of the Muslim Moro community if the commandants of the
MILF (Abdurrahman Macapaar [Komandan Bravo] and Umbra Kato)- who had led the
MILF in carrying out deadly strikes on the Filipino military- did not surrender
themselves.
“It is impossible to have a peace negotiation under the leadership of President
Arroyo,” Iqbal said. “The level of our trust is at zero,” he continued.
It was only last week that the President announced that she would continue with
the negotiation, but then they openly attacked the Muslim territories with an
excuse of trying to capture commandant Bravo and Umbra Kato. The Filipino
military launched the air strikes and shelling in order to destroy the strength
of the MILF Mujahideen. Raids after raids on the MILF Mujahideen defense bases
had been launched, however the locations of both of the wanted MILF seasoned
commandants were still unknown. The MILF Mujahideen only lost 10 of its fighters
(shaheed, insha Allah)
The Filipino military are currently in preparation for expected retaliations
especially after hearing the news that both of the hardened commanders would be
conducting operations on the Filipino military in the coming days.
The other MILF spokesman, Eid Kabalu said that it seemed impossible that an
agreement with the Filipino government could materialize as the government were
never consistent with what they said.
