Today's News From Around The World Monday 26 February 2007
Jesus, son of Mary, the messenger of God Behold! the angels said: "O Mary! Allaah has chosen you and purified you - chosen you above the women of all nations.
"O Mary! worship your Lord devoutly: Prostrate yourself, and bow down (in prayer) with those who bow down."
This is part of the tidings of the things unseen, which We reveal unto you (O Messenger!) by inspiration: you were not with them when they cast lots with arrows, as to which of them should be charged with the care of Mary: Nor were you with them when they disputed (the point).
Behold! the angels said: "O Mary! Allaah gives you glad tidings of a Word from Him: his name will be Christ Jesus, the son of Mary, held in honor in this world and the Hereafter and of (the company of) those nearest to Allaah;
"He shall speak to the people in childhood and in maturity. And he shall be (of the company) of the righteous."
She said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son when no man has touched me?" He said: "Even so: Allaah creates what He wills: When He has decreed a plan, He but says to it, 'Be,' and it is!
"And Allaah will teach him the Book and Wisdom, the Law and the Gospel,
"And (appoint him) a messenger to the Children of Israel, (with this message): "'I have come to you, with a Sign from your Lord, in that I make for you out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, and breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by Allaah's leave: And I heal those born blind, and the lepers, and I quicken the dead, by Allaah's leave; and I declare to you what you eat, and what you store in your houses. Surely therein is a Sign for you if you did believe;
"'(I have come to you),
to attest the Law which was before me. And to make lawful to you part
of what was (Before) forbidden to you; I have come to you with a Sign
from your Lord. So fear Allaah, and obey me.
"'It is Allaah Who is my Lord and your Lord; then worship Him. This is a Way that is straight.'"
When Jesus found Unbelief on their part He said: "Who will be My helpers to (the work of) Allaah?" Said the disciples: "We are Allaah's helpers: We believe in Allaah, and you bear witness that we are Muslims.
"Our Lord! we believe in what you hast revealed, and we follow the Messenger; then write us down among those who bear witness."
And (the unbelievers) plotted and planned, and Allaah too planned, and the best of planners is Allaah.
Behold! Allaah said: "O
Jesus! I will take thee and raise thee to Myself and clear thee (of
the falsehoods) of those who blaspheme; I will make those who follow
thee superior to those who reject faith, to the Day of Resurrection:
Then shall you all return unto me, and I will judge between you of the
matters wherein you dispute. (Quran, 3:42-54)
The similitude of Jesus
before Allaah is as that of Adam; He created him from dust, then said
to him: "Be". And he was. (Quran, 3:59)
...That They said (in boast),
“We killed the Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allaah”;
but They did not kill him, nor crucified him, but so it was made
appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with
no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety
they did not kill him:
Nay,
Allaah raised him up unto Himself; and Allaah is Exalted in Power,
Wise; (Quran, 4:157 - 158)
Jewish propaganda trying to create distortion in the minds of Christians.... The headline "Tomb could be of Jesus, wife and son" The burial site of Jesus has been found and suggests he had a wife and son, according to highly sensitive claims in a documentary by “Titanic” director James Cameron and Israel-born director Simcha Jacobovici. Cameron and Jacobovici said their research suggested Jesus married Mary Magdalene and had a son, Judah. “DNA analysis conducted at one of the world's foremost molecular genetics laboratories, as well as studies by leading scholars, suggest a 2,000-year-old Jerusalem tomb could have once held the remains of Jesus of Nazareth and his family,” a statement from Discovery, which will broadcast the documentary, said. The tomb was located in Talpiot, Jerusalem, March 28, 1980 by a construction crew developing an apartment complex. Scholar L.Y. Rahmani later published “A Catalogue of Jewish Ossuaries” that described 10 ossuaries, or limestone bone boxes, found in the tomb, the Discovery statement said. Five of the 10 discovered boxes in the Talpiot tomb were inscribed with names believed to be associated with key figures in the New Testament: Jesus, Mary, Matthew, Joseph and Mary Magdalene. A sixth inscription, written in Aramaic, translates to “Judah Son of Jesus.”

So, who is the terrorist? Over 5,000 Palestinians killed by the Israeli army since 2000. Since the outbreak of the second Palestinian Intifada in September 2000, until late January 2007, the Israeli army has killed 5,050 Palestinian men, women and children, wounded 49,760 others and detained 10,4000 others. 351 Palestinian women have been killed, 150 patients have died at checkpoints and 66 others have been killed due to beating by Israeli settlers. 36 medical staff have been killed, 9 members of the press, and 220 sportsmen (...) According to B’Tselem (The Israeli Information Center for Human Rights) for the same period, 704 Israeli civilians and 316 Israeli occupation forces were killed by the Palestinians. Still wondering who is the terrorist?
Markets Hate Farmers And yet, every minute one farmer quits agriculture. In America, there are more people in jails than on the farm. There are approximately 7 million people in jail or on parole and bail. And only about 700,000 people are left on the farm. Thanks to the farm policies, American farmers have been driven out of agriculture. In its last census in 2000, America did not count the number of farmers for the first time in history. In need not. After all the number of farmers has plummeted to a historic low. So when America talks of agriculture, it actually talks of corporations and machines.
Market Fundamentalism Versus Sustainable Development-A Titanic Struggle To Save The World Let us be clear on what market fundamentalism (MF) really means. MF is not the belief, or the credo, that free or open markets, as a general rule, or under certain conditions, or at a given point of time, or for one sector of the economy but not for another, lead to, or are good for, development. It is the belief, or the credo, that free or open markets lead to, or are good for, development at all times and without conditions; and that ‘covers’ not only the international trade of goods and services but also domestic economic policies in the poor countries that have crucial and negative social implications. These domestic economic policies include:
a) the privatization of essential services – such as, water, electricity, health, education, transportation and telecommunications – and the suppression of state subsidies that make them affordable for poor people;
b) the reduction (if not the complete elimination) of budgetary deficits as a prerequisite for IMF or World Bank loans – because controlling inflation and achieving a stable and convertible national currency are judged to be more important than the alleviation of poverty; and
c) the lack of
protection of poor farmers (for example,100,000 Indian farmers have
committed suicide in the last ten, fifteen years)1 and of ‘infant’
industries.
On the other hand, MF has been very good, and led to, massive profits for the large multinational corporations (MNCs) operating in an extremely favorable environment. MF is thus at the heart, or the core, of neo-liberal globalisation (NLG) which has significantly worsened economic inequalities in the world.

Louis Farrakhan
The leader of a cult called
Nation of Islam movement in the US claiming to be Muslims
(but in reality it is just another evil plot by
the Jew against the religion of Islam) has blamed religious
discord among Christians, Muslims and those of other faiths for
causing global conflicts
"Our lips are full of praise, but our
hearts are far removed from the prophets we all claim," he said on
Sunday. "That's why the world is in the shape that it's in."
He denounced the war in Iraq, saying George Bush, the US president,
should be impeached or at least censured for his "wicked policies".
"Our president ... through deception and outright lies and the
manipulation of the intelligence community ... manipulated the
Congress after 9/11 to give him permission to go to war in Iraq.
"What should they do about a man who has been lying to America?" he
asked.
Cairo: Canadian
Mossad agent
spied for Israel
Attar is charged with harming Egyptian national interests by supplying
the Mossad with information; receiving $56,000 in Canadian and U.S.
currencies for information on Arabs and Egyptians living in Turkey and
Canada and providing his co-accused with that information. The bizarre
case against Attar has been outlined in Egyptian reports and a
government dossier of more than 300 pages. He is alleged to have
converted from Islam to Christianity around the time he became a spy;
moved to Canada where he, an admitted homosexual, married four men and
used his job at a CIBC branch in Toronto to spy on financial
transactions, including some that involved a Saudi Prince. Attar is
also alleged to have recruited Egyptians, Syrians and Iraqis in Canada
to work for the Mossad.
Canada-Afghanistan detainee agreement allows torture: rights groups The Arrangement fails to meet the minimum standards of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms with respect to the care that Canadian Forces must take under Canada’s constitution to prevent detainees from being tortured after they are transferred to Afghanistan or another country. This problem is serious, and probably would result in the Arrangement being declared unconstitutional if it were judicially reviewed in a Canadian court.
Egyptian Cleric Says CIA Tortured Him An Egyptian cleric kidnapped off the streets of Italy by CIA agents in 2003 said Sunday that the Americans who abducted him "savagely" tortured him while deporting him to Egypt for interrogation. The remarks by Osama Hassan Mustafa Nasr, also known as Abu Omar, are likely to intensify criticism of the United States' so-called "extraordinary rendition" program. Italy has indicted 26 Americans and five Italian agents charged with seizing the cleric in 2003. Nasr told Qatar’s al-Jazeera TV network that he "was savagely tortured by the CIA when kidnapped and during my deportation" to Egypt. The CIA has repeatedly declined to comment on the case.

Srebrenica massacre was genocide: ICJ The
International Court of Justice(ICJ) on Monday said in a landmark
ruling that the 1995 massacre of nearly 8,000 Bosnian Muslims in
Srebrenica was genocide, confirming an earlier ruling by the UN war
crimes court for the former Yugoslavia. "The court concludes there
were acts of genocide committed by members of the Serb Christian kafir
army in Srebrenica," said ICJ president Rosalyn Higgins. It is the
first time that the ICJ, the UN's top court, has ruled that an event
was genocide, made an international crime under a 1948 treaty.

The Cultural Connection Zionism and the United States For these US policymakers, it is not only a question of propagandistic manipulation, of the conscious deception of the public. The metaphors and analogies founded upon the special affinities between the US and the state of Israel are rather rooted in the social and cultural histories of both their societies and politics. If hypocrisy and bad faith are integral to political behavior, in the service of collective interests as much as in the service of individual designs, it is to be expected that such self-deception should be pronounced in, on the one hand, the critical, early phases of nation-state-making and, on the other hand, during the construction of an imperial presence in the Middle East.
AIPAC Demands "Action" on Iran So now, the Israeli war advocates aver, the U.S. president needs to be helped to do the right thing and attack Iran by lobbyists who will use their power to force the fools in the Democratic Party, especially presidential candidates. Because Americans don't understand and have to be shaken out of their current skeptical mode. By who? By AIPAC, of course! The confidence expressed by these gentlemen (in the second most powerful political action committee in the country) is quite extraordinary. But alas, maybe it's warranted.
Don't ignore Putin's warning Russia will not let the U.S. attain unchallenged world nuclear, political, or energy domination. In a startlingly blunt speech at a Munich security conference, Russia's president accused Washington of seeking world domination, undermining the UN and other international institutions, monopolizing world energy resources, destabilizing the Mideast by its bungled occupation of Iraq, and unleashing a new nuclear arms race by planning to deploy anti-missile systems in Eastern Europe.
Palestinian Martyred in Nablus Jewish kafir terrorists forces have shot and martyred a Palestinian civilian in the West Bank area on Monday. According to Iran’s al-Alam TV network quoting Palestinian security sources, on the second day of Jewish kafir terrorists forces raids on various regions of the city of Nablus one Palestinian was martyred and 16 others were abducted. Earlier on Sunday, Jewish kafir terrorists forces, while raiding the northern West Bank city of Nablus had inflicted injuries on 8 Palestinians and kidnapped 20 others. The Palestinian Jihad Movement while condemning the attack by Jewish kafir terrorists forces, retaliated by firing missiles on a Jewish terrorists township in the south of Gaza.

Russia Questions US Missile Defense Shield on European Soil Russia has questioned US claims of setting up missile defense shields on European soil to counter the alleged threats from Iran and North Korea. The US says it is installing a radar system in the Czech Republic and a missile base in Poland to counter what it calls ballistic missile threats. According to XinHua, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Sunday: To counter the alleged threats, the installing of radars and missile bases in the two east European countries doesn't seem necessary, as the route of the missiles that might be allegedly fired from Iran or North Korea passes a totally different direction. A high ranking Russian military official has warned if the Czech Republic and Poland accept to give military bases to the US, from now on Russian strategic missile forces might include these two bases in the list of their targets.
5 US
commanders to resign if Iran is attacked: report
Five most senior
US military commanders are disposed to resign if the White House
orders to attack Iran, revealed a UK based newspaper on Monday.
Quoting unnamed defence and intelligence sources, the newspaper
reported that up to five generals and admirals are willing to resign
rather than approve what they consider would be a reckless attack.”
“There are four or five generals and admirals we know of who would
resign if Bush ordered an attack on Iran,” a source with close ties to
British intelligence said. “There is simply no stomach for it in the
Pentagon, and a lot of people question whether such an attack would be
effective or even possible.” A British defence source confirmed that
there were deep misgivings inside the Pentagon about a military
strike. “All the generals are perfectly clear that they don’t have the
military capacity to take Iran on in any meaningful fashion. Nobody
wants to do it and it would be a matter of conscience for them. There
are enough people who feel this would be an error of judgment.” A
second US navy aircraft carrier strike group arrived in the Gulf last
week, doubling the US presence there. Vice Admiral Patrick Walsh, the
commander of the US Fifth Fleet, warned: “The US will take military
action if ships are attacked or if countries in the region are
targeted or US troops come under direct attack.”

Each of the 34,000 NATO terrorists soldiers in Afghanistan costs an average of US $5,000 a month to maintain, while the average Afghan munafiq soldier takes home $60 a month, despite the billions of dollars being thrown at the country. And after five years, the Taliban are as strong as ever.

Bush Seeks Division In L. America Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said Saturday that he saw American President George W. Bush's upcoming tour to Latin America as a diplomatic offensive aimed at dividing the anti-imperialist region. Chavez said that Bush's planned trip was "without a doubt" aimed at dividing the region and containing Venezuela's influence. Chavez told a news conference: "But it's too late. I think the US President now has nothing to find in Latin America. It is an offensive destined to the abyss of failure." Chavez said he respected the decision by other Latin American nations to "receive this little gentleman," but in Venezuela, "We will never receive him. Never. Because we know what he is. This is nothing personal." Chavez has become one of Washington's fiercest critics and blasts American-style capitalism for poverty and inequality in the region.

CIA Recruited Japanese War Criminals CIA records released by the US National Archives document more fully than ever how suspected Japanese war criminals were recruited by US intelligence in the early days of the Cold War. AP reported: The documents also show how ineffective the effort was in the CIA's view. Historians say: The records, declassified in 2005 and 2006 under an act of Congress in tandem with Nazi war crime-related files, fill in many of the blanks in the previously spotty documentation of the occupation authority's intelligence arm and its involvement with Japanese ultra-nationalists and war criminals. Conspicuous figures in US-funded operations included mob boss and war profiteer Yoshio Kodama, and Takushiro Hattori, former private secretary to Hideki Tojo, the wartime prime minister hanged as a war criminal in 1948.

Climate Change, Peak Oil And Nuclear War The Bush Admin appears to want to play double or nothing with war in Iran to try again at enforcing their neocon vision for the Middle East. Anti-Semite- Moi? What was that
thing you said, Abe Foxman, director of the Anti-Defamation League?
You know, that really dramatic thing you said in the speech you
recently made in Palm Beach, where you blamed the internet for the
recent rise in ‘anti-Semitism’ around the world, and how you couldn’t
remember ever being so ‘seriously concerned about the safety and
security’ of your grandson because of it? Well, what do you know,
Abe…miracles do exist. There is actually something upon which you and
I can agree. You see, I too have never been so afraid for the future
of my progeny, and the source of my worry also stems from the recent
rise in anti-Semitism. No, Abe, I am not Jewish, thank God, for if I
were then chances are better than not that I would find myself in the
clutches of evil, conspiring men (such as you) who are always drumming
up new ways of enriching and empowering themselves by getting their
own people into trouble.
"All Candidates are pro-Israel" Who are we
going to vote for on the Republican side? You have Brownback, Gilmore,
Gingrich, Giuliani, Hagel, etc. On the Democratic side, you have Biden,
Clinton, Dodd, Obama, Edwards, Gravel and the list goes on. What is
the common link to all these candidates? All the hopefuls for the
office of the president have put the interest of Israel ahead of the
best interest and security of the United States. Why?
Arms makers see opportunity in Gulf tension Rising concern over Iran expected to boost already strong sales of military equipment Lockheed Martin Corp. and Boeing Co., the two biggest U.S. defence contractors, as well as BAE, Europe's biggest, and Raytheon, the world's largest missile maker, are among 900 defence exhibitors at the International Defence Exhibition, the largest military fair in the Arab world, being held this week in Abu Dhabi.
Islamophobia Allows Civil-Rights Abuses“Islamophobia is the way in which the Muslim community is constructed as an enemy, a civilizational other,”...“As a whole, Muslims occupy the opposite of everything that is good in the West”...“It creates an idea where everything in the West is completely egalitarian, completely democratic; everything is completely perfect, and on the other side, everything is completely barbaric, completely oppressive.”
Israel occupation likened to Apartheid: report The UN's Special Rapporteur for Human Rights, Professor John Dugard has compared Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territories to elements of Apartheid. In a new report, he points to what he describes as the 'unashamed discrimination' against Palestinians in favour of Israeli settlers. Mr Dugard also says that Israel is imposing a policy of 'controlled strangulation' that is helping to give rise to a failed state on its doorstep. Mr Dugard is a South African professor of international law assigned to monitor Israeli human rights abuses.
Jewish Opposition to Israeli Human Rights Crimes is Growing Criticizing Israel is Not an Act of Bigotry To justify Israel's continued occupation and theft of Palestinian land, the state and its defenders attempt to deny Palestinian suffering, arguing instead that Palestinian resentment is rooted not in Israeli violence, but rather in Islam, or the "Arab mentality," or a mystical anti-Semitism inherent in Arab or Muslim culture. Consequently, pro-Israel advocacy depends upon on the active dissemination of Islamophobia. Not surprisingly, engendering hatred in this manner inflames anti-Jewish sentiment among Arabs and Muslims. None of this is a recipe for making Jews safe.
If Bush is a War Criminal, Then What About the Troops? Reasonable people contemplating service in the U.S. military should know that people throughout the world regard participation in the occupation as tantamount to aiding and abetting in mass murder, fraud, human rights violations, and international war crimes. By now, all of the troops should recognize this, and ignorance is no excuse.
Iran's nuclear
work never to be abandoned, says Iranian president
Iran has no reverse gear
in its nuclear programme, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on
Sunday, while a deputy foreign minister vowed Tehran was prepared for
any eventuality, "even for war". "Iran has obtained the technology to
produce nuclear fuel and Iran's move is like a train ... which has no
brake and no reverse gear," Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying by a
local news agency reported. Tehran says it wants a deal but rules out
the West's key demand that it suspend the atomic work.
Iran
Successfully Launches First Rocket Into Space
Iran on Sunday
successfully launched its first rocket into space. Mohsen Bahrami, the
head of Iran's aerospace research centre, said: "The rocket was
carrying material intended for research created by the ministries of
science and defense. Iran's success in launching a space rocket is the
first major step towards putting homemade satellites into space on the
back of Iranian-made rockets. He said: "All the tests leading up to
the launch have been carried out in the country's industrial
facilities in line with international regulations." Bahrami added:
"The manufacture of the rocket and the cargo was achieved by experts
at the Iranian centre of aerospace research and the engineering centre
at the ministry of agricultural planning." Iran has for the past years
been pressing ahead with a nascent space programme, which has already
seen an Iranian Russian-made satellite put into orbit by a Russian
rocket in October 2005. That satellite, called Sina-1, was Iran's
first to be launched into space for research and telecommunications
purposes. Iran is planning the construction and launch of several more
satellites over the next three years.
Arar divisive issue as N. American officials meet
The officials gave little details of what was discussed during
Friday's talks, which critics decried as being too secretive and
possibly harmful to Canada's sovereignty. Ottawa had earlier issued a
press release saying the discussion would not move Canada closer to
becoming another U.S. state. The release offered assurances that
ministers are not making secretive backroom agreements with U.S. and
Mexican ministers that would undermine Canada's independence.
The Second Great Depression Congress is now looking into the shabby lending practices that shoehorned millions of people into homes that they clearly cannot afford. But their efforts will have no affect on the loans that are already in place. $1 trillion in ARMs (Adjustable Rate Mortgages) are due to reset in 2007 which guarantees that millions of over-leveraged homeowners will default on their mortgages putting pressure on the banks and sending the economy into a tailspin. We are at the beginning of a major shake-up and there’s going to be a lot more blood on the tracks before things settle down.

can’t stay for long in Afghanistan: Hekmatyar
Denouncing the United States as “the mother of problems”, Gulbuddin
Hekmatyar, a former prime minister of Afghanistan, who is currently
leading his group of Mujahideen against the US and NATO and Afghan
forces, has said the US does not have the capacity to stay for long in
Afghanistan. He also predicts America will pull out at the same
time as it withdraws from Iraq. Afghanistan’s turmoil would not end
until US forces left the region, he said. “As long as America remains
in Afghanistan and in the region, war and problems will continue,” he
said in a copy of a videotape obtained by news agencies on Thursday.
“I can say with full assurance and confidence that America does not
have the ability to stay for a long period in Afghanistan...,” he
said. Hekmatyar said America's allies had sent troops to Afghanistan
and Iraq out of fear of Washington. But he said a rift was emerging
among them over whether they should stay on there. “My analysis is
that America (will) pull out from Iraq and Afghanistan simultaneously
and the withdrawal perhaps will happen this year,” he declared.
Hekmatyar advised US and Nato troops to pull out.

"Another U.S. Military Assault on Media"
U.S. soldiers raided and ransacked the
offices of the Iraq Syndicate of Journalists (ISJ) in central Baghdad
Tuesday this week. Ten armed guards were arrested, and 10 computers
and 15 small electricity generators kept for donation to families of
killed journalists were seized.
This is not the first time U.S. troops have attacked the media in
Iraq, but this time the raid was against the very symbol of it. Many
Iraqis believe the U.S. soldiers did all they could to deliver the
message of their leadership to Iraqi journalists to keep their mouth
shut about anything going wrong with the U.S.-led occupation.
