Pakistan tribal Mujahideen ban music in
N. Waziristan The Pakistan tribal Mujahideen Shoora on Monday
imposed a ban on sale of CDs and cassettes and music in buses and passenger
coaches in North Waziristan. The Shoora also ordered owners of music and video
shops in Miramshah to wind up their businesses immediately. Armed volunteers
raided music centres and CD shops in the town and asked the shopkeepers to stop
playing music. Eyewitnesses said the Mujahideen stopped passenger vehicles on
the Miramshah-Mirali road and removed cassette and CD players. Locals said that
the Mujahideen, who virtually control the region, also asked people not to play
or listen to music at public places, including Miramshah Bazaar.
The Shoora announcement said that anybody violating the order would have to face
‘consequences’. Anwarullah Khan adds from Khar in Bajaur Agency: Most music
shops and hair-cutting salons here have been closed and their owners have
switched to other businesses.
Some of them moved out of the agency after Pakistan pro-Taliban Mujahideen
bombed their shops over the past weeks. Last week, Mujahideen set up road blocks
in different areas and stopped private and public transport vehicles to search
for cassette and CD players. They seized cassettes and players from several
vehicles and smashed them on the spot. They also ordered passengers to remove
musical ring tones from their cell phones and not to use mobile phones with
built-in camera. According to residents, car-owners and drivers of public
transport vehicles have removed cassette and CD players from their vehicles ad
owners of music shops in Khar town, Inayat Kallay Bazaar, Siddiqabad, Nawagai,
Raghgan, Lagharai, Loi Sam, Pashat and other areas have closed the business and
opened vegetable shops and general stores.

an English medium institution run by the political administration, had changed
students’ uniform from shirt and trousers to shalwar-kameez after they received
threats and ‘orders’ to stop using ‘western uniform.’

Syrian President: US Failed in Iraq Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad said: The United States has failed in Iraq and actually lost the war. Bashar Al-Assad in an interview with the American “ABC” TV network said: The United States raises accusations against countries like Syria with the aim of covering up its failures in Iraq; while such accusations are totally baseless. The Syrian President described the US-Syria problem as political and noted: The problem between the two countries has nothing to do with security issues. He further criticized Washington for not cooperating with Damascus to control Syria’s joint borders with Iraq. Referring to a meeting between the US Secretary of State and her Syrian counterpart on the sidelines of the Sharm-el-Sheikh conference in Egypt the Syrian President noted: It is too early to view such talks as a progress in bilateral ties, because Washington and Damascus cannot discuss security concerns under the shadow of strained ties between the two sides.
Muslim women in Bosnia come towards
Islam War in Bosnia between 1992-95 has pushed many young
Bosnian women into Islam. In spite of the fact that majority Muslims in this
country still are far from religion, but the quantity of girls, concerning to
norms of Shariah is constantly growing. Aida Begich became one such reviver of
Islam in this country. She has become the forbearer of Islam, where most of the
people indulge in materialistic way of life. According to her, she was brought
up in conditions of full freedom and never thought of family traditions. She has
become the first woman in her family to dress Hijab since times of her great
grand mother. "People were surprised and constantly asked me about religion. For
some it was absolutely unacceptable. However the choice is completely mine" -
she said in Sarajevo. Source: Kavkaz Center
Sri Lanka’s Ethnic Problem and Solutions The majority of the Muslim population in Sri lanka continue to live in areas away from the north and eastern provinces. They speak Tamil. Prior to the onset of the ethnic war, their identity was not a contentious political issue. It does not mean that the Muslim community did not really have problems when the ethnic war broke out in 1980's. Of course, their problems were not viewed in a political perspective. In the search for a political solution to the ethnic conflict, the Muslim community demanded a single administrative council in the eastern province. Though a similar proposal was included in the Bandaranaike Chelvanayakam Pact, it failed to gather momentum till the 1980s. Whilst the LTTE launched its campaign for a separate state, the Muslims put forward their claim mainly for an administrative unit which would guarantee there separate identity. The government made use of the Muslim community in the north and east for only war purposes and in consequence they fell easy victims to assassinations by the LTTE. Muslims who were evicted wholesale from the Jaffna peninsula by the LTTE in 1990 sought refuge in the eastern and southern parts of the country.
Russia-EU gas pipeline hit with a blast
An explosion in Ukraine on Monday knocked out of service one of the main
pipelines exporting Russian natural gas to the European Union, but was not
expected to affect supplies, officials said. A ‘large explosion’ near Kiev cut
the pipeline, which carried Siberian gas through Ukraine to Germany and other EU
clients, said Viktoria Ruban, a spokeswoman for the Ukrainian emergency
situations ministry. A 30-metre-long part of the pipeline was torn off, with
debris hurled up to 150m away. “No limits on gas supplies to European customers
have occurred,” Russian gas exporting monopoly Gazprom said in a statement.
Emergency services put out a fire at the scene and investigators were working to
uncover the cause of the explosion, the Ukrainian state gas company Naftogaz
said. The Urengoi-Uzhgorod pipeline has a capacity of 27.9 billion cubic metres
of gas a year, Interfax news agency reported. The emergency ministry said a
bypass route was used to ensure continued supplies.
Russia Determined to Complete Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant The Russian government has voiced strong determination to complete the Bushehr nuclear power plant under the contracts signed with the Iranian side. The Russian ambassador to Tehran in an interview with the Jam-e-Jam daily on the sidelines of the Tehran International Book Fair said: A delay in the inauguration of the Bushehr nuclear power plant in southern Iran is due to some technical problems and has nothing to do with political obstacles. The Russian ambassador reiterated: The issue of the Bushehr nuclear power plant is totally technical and Moscow is not influenced by the measures adopted at the UN Security Council regarding Iran’s peaceful nuclear case. He added that in the coming days he would hold talks with Iranian nuclear officials regarding the Bushehr power plant.
Massive star explodes in brightest-ever supernova US stargazers beheld the most spectacular supernova ever seen when a massive star exploded in a cosmic flash 50 billion times brighter than the sun, space agency NASA said Monday. “Of all exploding stars ever observed, this was the king,” said Alex Filippenko, one of the leaders of the NASA-backed operations which observed the phenomenon that began last fall, in a statement presenting the find. The supernova, named SN 2006gy, was likely caused by “the death of an extremely massive star,” said Dave Pooley of the University of California at Berkeley, who headed the overall observation project by NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory. The resulting stellar light show lasted 70 days.
World Bank Panel Finds Wolfowitz Broke
Rules A World Bank panel has found that bank President Paul
Wolfowitz's handling of a promotion and pay increase for his companion
represented a conflict of interest and broke rules. The former U.S. deputy
defense secretary, a key architect of the Iraq war, has been given several days
to respond to the findings of the panel involving a lucrative deal for his
companion, Shaha Riza, a World Bank Middle East expert. One source close to the
World Bank board said the panel found Wolfowitz's actions amounted to conflict
of interest, while another source said the panel found he broke internal rules
by personally directing Riza's transfer to the State Department with a promotion
and salary increase. A meeting of the 24-nation World Bank board, which will
determine whether Wolfowitz should be fired for his actions, is now scheduled
for later in the week, possibly on Friday. As Wolfowitz started a critical week,
one of his top aides, Kevin Kellems, resigned early on Monday, saying the
turmoil at the bank over its current leadership has made it difficult for him to
do his job.
US Execs Plead Guilty to Bribing Lawmakers Two top officers of a US oil services company pleaded guilty Monday to bribing Alaska lawmakers with cash and the promise of jobs, contracts and favors for their backing on bills supported by the multinational firm. Bill Allen, founder and chief executive of Anchorage-based VECO Corp., and Rick Smith, a vice president, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to extortion, bribery, and conspiracy to impede the Internal Revenue Service. Prosecutors say Smith and Allen conspired to buy the support of five state lawmakers, who are not named in charging documents. According to plea agreements dated Wednesday and Thursday, and unsealed Monday, sentencing was not immediately scheduled. The sentence recommended for each is about 10 years in prison and fines up to $150,000. The combined maximum sentence for each is 20 years in prison and $750,000 in fines.
Attacks on Corporate Greed Gaining Political Traction
"The deep unpopularity of the Bush White House
has
given new life to a populist sentiment that seemed moribund during the
high-flying dot-com economy of the Clinton '90s. 'For the first time in a long
time, we have a tail wind behind us,'" said liberal think-tanker Robert Kuttner.
Sound Effects
The US Navy's antisubmarine
warfare strategists probably wish they could emulate the way whales and dolphins
navigate the ocean depths. Instead, the Navy submarines rely on various types of
man-made sonar to monitor key shipping channels. With the advent of the modern,
ultra-quiet enemy submarine, the Navy insists its personnel must be trained in
using certain types of active sonar - the kind that blasts a pulse thousands of
miles through the water and sends a pressure wave ripping through the lungs and
brains of whales and dolphins. The wave causes deafness, disorientation, acute
stress, violent behavior and separation of mother and calf pairs. This is only
for starters.

France must not sacrifice its national interests for the interests and strategies of the Americans Mujahideen of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan ask the new French government to secure the national interests of France and Afghanistan. 'American Neo-Con' Elected in France There is a feeling in Paris tonight that France...has turned "a new page of our history"..."In the republic that I want to serve,"..."there cannot be rights without obligations. All must have their opportunity, but they must earn it by work, by personal commitment, by belief"...What is clear is that [Mr. Sarkozy] - known for his tough stance on crime and illegal immigration - is a deeply divisive figure for the French.
You are a Mind Control subject
"Propaganda is neutrally
defined as a systematic form of purposeful persuasion that attempts to influence
the emotions, attitudes, opinions, and actions of specified target audiences for
ideological, political or commercial purposes through the controlled
transmission of one-sided messages (which may or may not be factual) via mass
and direct media channels. A propaganda organization employs propagandists who
engage in propagandism—the applied creation and distribution of such forms of
persuasion."
CFR Is Promoting A One-World Currency Dictatorship The May/June 2007 edition of the New York Council on Foreign Relations' journal, Foreign Affairs, has published an open call for the end of sovereign nation-state control over currency. In a signed article by Benn Steil, Director of International Economics at the CFR, titled "The End of National Currency," the Council, in effect, endorsed the end of economic sovereignty and demanded the total capitulation of all nations, rich and poor, to unbridled globalization.
The Financialization of Capitalism Changes in capitalism over the last three decades have been commonly characterized using a trio of terms: neoliberalism, globalization, and financialization. Although a lot has been written on the first two of these, much less attention has been given to the third.1 Yet, financialization is now increasingly seen as the dominant force in this triad. The financialization of capitalism—the shift in gravity of economic activity from production (and even from much of the growing service sector) to finance—is thus one of the key issues of our time. More than any other phenomenon it raises the question: has capitalism entered a new stage?
Brain interactions with RF/microwave fields generated by mobile phones Neither radiofrequency (30 kHz-300MHz) nor microwave fields (300-3000 MHz) exist as significant components of the natural terrestrial electromagnetic environment. In consequence, our human generation is the first to voluntarily expose itself to artificial RF/microwave fields that cover a wide spectrum of frequencies and intensities. In general suburban environments, these newly introduced fields now have average intensities around 1 µW/cm2 (4V/m).
An assault on the way Pakistan is ruled What began as a simple judicial crisis has been transformed into one aimed at the jugular of the Pakistani military establishment. The suspension of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry has become a catalyst for myriad forces to combine to challenge the oligarchy that has for so many decades dictated the country's politics.
Pakistan court suspends inquiry into sacked judge Pakistan's Supreme Court on Monday suspended a judicial inquiry by the Supreme Judicial Council into misconduct charges against the country's top judge that triggered weeks of nationwide protests. The court ordered the suspension as it took up a petition from Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry challenging his sacking. “The SJC proceedings have been stayed,” Tariq Mehmud, a lawyer for Chaudhry, told reporters after the hearing. Mehmud said the Supreme Court had demanded that Chaudhry's case should be heard by a full court comprising all of its judges. “The SJC would not hear the case until Supreme Court decides the petition of chief justice,” Chaudhry's main lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan said. “The court's order shows that the proceedings so far of the Supreme Judicial Council were unconstitutional,” Ahsan added. The SJC was scheduled to resume its proceedings on Wednesday. “I am not unhappy over the order,” Malik Mohammad Qayyum, a senior lawyer representing the government, told reporters. Asked if the government would appeal against the suspension order, he said there could not be an appeal against an interim order and added that when a full court assembled, it could decide the matter.
The Needs of Nepal Overshadowed by the UN's Guise for Peace and Security
The article, amongst others, attempts to paint a picture
that those pesky Maoists and the Nepalese people (as if the two were separate)
are just being demanding, and not understanding all the good that the UN is
trying to do. It reeks of a patronizing ‘If they just stopped being difficult,
the UN could do its job and give them the prize of peace.’ How the UN
credibility and confidence has been lost by the Nepalese, is overlooked and
remains trivial questions by the mainstream policy analysts and media.
Army Cracks Down on US Soldiers' War Blogs Recent changes to the Army regulation on operations security created quite a stir in the blogosphere as writers protested what they believe is an attempt to eliminate soldiers' ability to blog about their experiences.
One Day You’re Gonna Wake Up, America And, like every other one since last you can remember, it’s gonna be an ugly morning. One day you’re gonna wake up and go to your lousy job with its lousy salary and non-existent benefits. You might even remember the good job you once had. Or that the government you once supported gave tax breaks to companies like the one that exported that good job of yours to the Third World (which is what they’re now starting to call your country). Or that that same government undermined the labor unions which fought to get you your good wages and benefits. One day you’re gonna wake up and be furious at the monstrous tax burden you are carrying, a tab which accounts for fifty of the seventy hours you must work each week just to eke by. You might even figure out why your tax bill is so high. You might remember that the government you once supported shifted the tax burden from the rich onto people like you, and from the taxpayers of the time onto those of today. And that they borrowed money in astonishing quantities to fund their sleight-of-hand, so that you work thirty hours a week just to pay the interest on a mountain of money borrowed decades ago.
The torture and ill-treatment of Palestinian detainees in Israel
A report released today by two
Israeli human rights organizations (B’Tselem and HaMoked) charges Shin Bet
security service in regularly torturing almost all Palestinian detainees.
Despite Israel High Court of Justice ruling from 1999 limiting the use of force
in investigations, B’Tselem and HaMoked reported torture methods includes
beating, painful binding, back bending, body stretching and prolonged sleep
deprivation. According to the report, despite the ruling, prisoners are shackled
to chairs in painful positions for protracted periods of time and subjected to
humiliation, swearing and threats by the interrogators. Despite more than 500
complaints have been filed since 2001, no criminal investigations have been
opened against the Shin Bet by the ‘Justice’ system. It makes one wonder what
type of Justice system did Israel adopt.
Row over Iraq oil law A draft law being considered by the Iraqi parliament would enable US companies to take control of Iraq's oil industry, oil experts in the country say. The proposed bill, approved by the Iraqi government in February after months of wrangling, opens the country's oil sector to foreign investors 35 years after it was nationalised. "The law is designed for the benefit of US oil companies," Ramzy Salman, an Iraqi economist who worked for the Iraqi oil ministry for 30 years, said. "If approved, it would take things back to where they were before the nationalisation of Iraq's oil in 1972."
Fighting fund: The US$564 billion war for profit War is a very profitable business for some very big and powerful corporations such as Halliburton, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Vinnell and Blackwater. It has been argued that rather than profiteering from war, these corporations are making war for profit. Many of them would not exist as we know them without war. Halliburton alone has already taken more than $13 billion from no-bid/no-audit US government contracts for providing everything from pizzas to security personnel in Iraq.

Statement of the Leadership Council of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan The current Jergah (council) between Afghanistan and Pakistan government which is being presented to the world as a national Jergah is a propaganda of American puppet Kabul's administration, but we know that this meeting between the two countries government officials is not a Jergah meeting, it is a meeting between the American puppet Pakistan and Afghan government officials.
This meeting is being refereed as
a Jergah of the nations to show the people of both countries, but this Jergah is
not acceptable to the people of both countries, cause it is just another meeting
of corrupt politicians of both countries.
There is no support for the American puppet Kabul's administration, which came to
power by force and was not elected by the people of Afghanistan, rather it was
forced up on them.
Afghan people are not ready to
accept a leader who was put in power by B52 forces, those who have put him in
power can not ignore the Afghans, the Afghans have decided to get freedom from
the invader forces and our history shows that no invader as ever succeeded in
establishing himself directly or indirectly on the land of Afghanistan.
The American puppet Kabul's administration time and time emphasizes that other
countries are helping the Mujahideen and Mujahideen are carrying out attacks out
side of Afghanistan, this propaganda is to cover up for its failures in
establishing any law and order or providing the daily necessities of life for
the average Afghans.
Mujahideen of Islamic Emirate of
Afghanistan reject
the propaganda claims of American puppet Kabul's administration and once again to
reiterate our position on our military operations out of Afghanistan, we don't
have any policy for operations out side of our country Afghanistan, all our
military operations are directed to liberate our people and our land from the foreign
invaders and their Afghan culprits inside of Afghanistan.
If any one does claims that the Taliban movement is directly or indirectly
involved in Mujahideen military operations out side of Afghanistan, it is something
that is being concocted by the Kafir and Munafiq propagandist, our position has been
made clear to the world.
The public should not forget that
the Islamic Emirate
of Afghanistan has its spokesmen, who our always in touch with the international
media reporters, so if any one does read any reports about the alleged Taliban
involvement out side of Afghanistan, then that person should also pay attention
to what the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan spokesmen have to say about the
allegation. If
someone other then
Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan spokesmen,
speaks about Taliban, that is his
or her personal position not of the
Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

US Defensive or
Rather Offensive Strategy in Europe
Breeding hypothetical threats and
enemies is a common diplomatic approach of the US regime to promote its
expansionist policy in the world. The International Community is fully aware of
the US ill intentions to rule the World through forging imaginary threats.
However, the White House Leaders have been trying to assume the old strategy to
deceive the World public opinion. This is exactly the same approach taken by the
White House to try to justify stationing of its provocative anti-missile system
in Eastern Europe. This unconvincing reasoning for installing such sophisticated
anti-ballistic missile system is the alleged missile threat from North Korea,
and Iran, while the major root-cause of the US strategy in stationing such
modern system lies in monitoring military moves of the Russians.

Climate Change Can Be Halted, UN Concludes Global warming is solvable, United Nations climate change experts said yesterday, in a landmark judgement running counter to increasing pessimism about the most serious threat facing the world. The greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, whose emissions growth is causing the atmosphere to warm, can be brought under control, said the economists of the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) - but only if governments act decisively.
India needs her small farmers For food security, livelihood security, peace and democracy India is a land of small farmers, with 650 million of her 1 billion people living on the land and 80 per cent farmers owning less than 2 ha of land. In other words, the land provides livelihood security for 65 per cent of the people, and the small farmers provide food security for 1 billion. Policies driven by corporate globalisation are pushing farmers off the land, and peasants out of agriculture. This is not a natural evolutionary process. It is a violent and imposed process. The 150,000 farmers suicides are one aspect of this violence. The killing of dozens of peasants in Nandigram who were resisting land acquisition for a Special Economic Zone is another aspect of the violence involved in the forced uprooting of India's small farmers.
Indian MPs slam US Congress on N-deal
row Indian MPs from both left and right united on Friday to
denounce US legislators for what they said was an attempt to influence foreign
policy through a controversial nuclear trade deal. The lawmakers criticised
letters written by Democratic and Republican legislators warning Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh that New Delhi’s ties with Iran had significant potential to harm
India-US relations and the landmark deal. “We must send a very strong message to
the US Senators and Congressmen that this will not prevail,” Yashwant Sinha,
foreign minister in the previous Hindu nationalist-led government, told
parliament. “We are not going to tolerate this,” he said. The angry reactions
from Mr Sinha and his colleagues in the upper house of parliament came after
details of the latest letter from the congressmen were published in an Indian
newspaper on Friday. The letter --- signed by Democrat Tom Lantos, chairman of
the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, senior Republican Ileana
Ros-Lehtinen and others --- was the third, and strongest, in recent days
expressing concern over relations between New Delhi and Tehran.
Blair's Corrupt Britannia Gerrymanders The Scottish Elections But, hey! Guess what. It looks like Tony Blair's corrupt crowd have done a Bush fix and stolen the election from under our very noses! Very early on, as the election results started to dribble in it was clear that hundreds of ballot papers were being rejected by the Data Research Services' ballot-paper capture scanning software and that the results were failing to be collated and tabulated. An embarrassed spokesman for DRS was interviewed and, as to be expected, gave an extremely defensive reply.

On the Media Horizon- "We Invest, You Decide" Like those who call the shots at Fox News Channel, the Dow Jones employees in charge of the editorial page at the Journal have been unstinting in their fantasies: The Iraq war remains a noble enterprise. Global warming is a liberal fraud. There is no widening gap between the rich and poor in the United States. And so on, and so on, and scooby-dooby-doo.
The
Media, The People, And Why Nobody Can See The 'Invisible Hand'
If you read the news
this past week, you would've learned that unprovoked 'thugs' armed with dynamite
and guns attacked Chevron oil workers in the Niger Delta, Nigeria. Mark Twain
once said that "he who does not read the newspaper is uninformed. He who reads
the newspaper is misinformed." More than 100 years later, his words couldn't be
more true.... Ever since Nigeria's 1974 'independence,' transnational oil
corporations like Shell and Chevron have been extracting oil from the Niger
Delta whilst amassing enormous profit along the way. As one of the most bio
diverse and natural resource rich nations in Africa, Nigeria would logically be
an obvious target for the centers of capitalist dominance; the United States
government and corporatocracy, World Bank, and IMF, to coerce and entice
national 'leaders' with lofty projections of economic growth and promises of
prosperity through mass construction of infrastructure and oil extraction
intervention.

Occupational forces support Afghan narcotics trade
The
occupation forces in Afghanistan are supporting the drug trade, which brings
between 120 and 194 billion dollars of revenues to organized crime, intelligence
agencies and Western financial institutions. The proceeds of this lucrative
multibllion dollar contraband are deposited in Western banks. Almost the
totality of revenues accrue to corporate interests and criminal syndicates
outside Afghanistan.
The Golden Crescent drug trade, launched by the CIA in the early 1980s,
continues to be protected by US intelligence, in liason with NATO occupation
forces and the British military. In recent developments, British occupation
forces have promoted opium cultivation through paid radio advertisements. "A
radio message broadcast across the province assured local farmers that the Nato-led
International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) would not interfere with poppy
fields currently being harvested.

Those Who Continue to Lecture Us–Pt II Well, one would think that after having their vulgar, violent, vindictive behavior exposed a few days ago in my most recent piece that it might raise some sense of shame in these people who are constantly lecturing the rest of us on ‘moral’ themes such as hate, bigotry, racism, etc, etc, etc. Well, that might be the case when dealing with someone from any other faith or culture, but not when it comes to these folks. After all, keep in mind that these are God’s chosen people and therefore they don’t have to answer or apologize for anything.
The Palestinian Christian Is An Endangered Species When the modern state of Israel was established there were about 400,000 Christians. Two years ago the number was down to 80,000. Now it’s down to 60,000. At that rate, in a few years there will be none of us left.
Free Trade vs. Small Farmers
The 20th century
was a terrible blight on small farmers everywhere. In both wealthy capitalist
economies and in socialist countries, farmers paid a heavy price for
industrialization. In advanced capitalist countries like the United States, a
deadly combination of economies of scale, capital-intensive technology, and the
market led to large corporations cornering agricultural production and
processing. Small and medium farms were relegated to a marginal role in
production and a minuscule portion of the work force. Today, perhaps the
greatest threat to small farmers is free trade. And the farmers are fighting
back. They have helped, for instance, to stalemate the Doha round of
negotiations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). This tug of war between
farmers and free trade is nowhere more visible than in Asia.
Peace, Clean Energy, And Priorities Our current energy architecture have led to global warming, a potentially-terminal problem at least for civilization and the majority of Earth’s higher species. Everything we need to rebalance the carbon cycle is in our hands. But the enemy that has gotten enormously powerful delivering us to this crucial predicament will use this power to protect their profits.
Anti-Capitalism in Five Minutes or Less
We know that capitalism is not
just the most sensible way to organize an economy but is now the only possible
way to organize an economy. We know that dissenters to this conventional wisdom
can, and should, be ignored. There’s no longer even any need to persecute such
heretics; they are obviously irrelevant.
How do we know all this? Because we are told so, relentlessly — typically by
those who have the most to gain from such a claim, most notably those in the
business world and their functionaries and apologists in the schools,
universities, mass media, and mainstream politics. Capitalism is not a choice,
but rather simply is, like a state of nature. Maybe not like a state of nature,
but the state of nature. To contest capitalism these days is like arguing
against the air that we breathe. Arguing against capitalism, we’re told, is
simply crazy.
... They come bearing checkbooks The Chinese delegation visiting Washington this month is expected to sign deals worth US$12 billion for everything from aircraft to soybeans. Big as they are, the purchases will scarcely make a dent in China's huge trade surplus.
Historical Amnesia: Worst U.S. Massacre? There were
much bloodier massacres before Blacksburg:
-- In 1860, Bret Harte, a well-known California writer, had just begun his
writing career, working as a newspaper reporter in Arcata (known then as Union).
Harte was expelled from Humboldt County because he recorded the Gunther Island
Massacre of Wiyot Indians, committed on Feb. 26, 1860, when a small group of
white men murdered between 60 and 200 Wiyot men, women and children. The
massacre was encouraged by a local newspaper. Extermination was once the
official policy of the California government toward Native Americans, as Gov.
Peter H. Burnett stated in 1851: "That a war of extermination will continue to
be waged between the two races until the Indian race becomes extinct, must be
expected..."
-- On April 12, 1864, at Fort Pillow, near Memphis, Tenn., Confederate troops
under Gen. Nathan Forrest massacred 227 black and white Union troops with such
ferocity that an eyewitness Confederate soldier said, "blood, human blood, stood
about in pools and brains could have been gathered up in any quantity...Gen.
Forrest ordered them shot down like dogs and the carnage continued. Finally our
men became sick of blood and the firing ceased."
-- On April 13, 1873, 350 miles northwest of New Orleans in Colfax, Grand
Parish, La., 280 blacks were victims of a group of armed white men that included
members of the White League and the Ku Klux Klan. Known as the Colfax Massacre,
it was said to be sparked by contested local elections, although more generally
its cause was white opposition to Reconstruction, which in 1875 resulted in a
legal ruling, United States vs. Cruikshank, an important basis of future
gun-control legislation, because it allows that "the federal government had no
power to protect citizens against private action (not committed by federal or
state government authorities) that deprived them of their constitutional rights
under the 14th Amendment."

The Israel Factor infiltrates Democratic Presidential Candidate debate Best for Israel, Worst for Israel - the crisis in America has reached critical mass. Best for Israel or worst for Israel should have no bearing whatsoever regarding who is elected President of the United States. Best for the United States, Worst for the United States is all that should be considered. If the Israel Lobby and its media operatives are allowed to continue to infiltrate and frame our political debates and sabotage viable candidates that they deem not the best for Israel, then they have the power to control and censor the political messages heard in the United States. Consequently, the American people will continue to have a tainted and corrupted opinion of their political candidates, and unbeknownst to the casual voter, will cast votes in favor of pre-approved candidates rather than the best candidate for the United States of America.
How "Law and Order" Covers for Bigotry in the Immigration Debate Central to the debate on immigration has been the appeal to law and order. But behind all the propaganda about respect for the law the core of the anti-immigration movement is about bigotry. Not surprisingly, the laws they appeal to are...unjust and barbaric...[J]ust as with the the bigots of the past who disguised their hatred with the rhetoric of "law and order" when the law was apartheid in South Africa or "black codes" in the American South, the core of the anti-immigration movement today is about hate.

India denies US
pressure over IPI gas pipeline project
There is no question of the
United States or any other country pressurizing India on the proposed
Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project, Lok Sabha was informed on Thursday.
"There is no question of the US or any other country interfering in India's
internal affairs. I can assure the House there is no such fear and India cannot
be pressurized," Petroleum Minister Murli Deora said.
"We are going ahead with our
discussions on the pipeline project with Iran and Pakistan," he said during
Question Hour when asked whether top US leaders like US Secretary of State
Condoleezza Rice had put any pressure on India.
To questions regarding security of the project in Pakistan, Deora said Pakistan
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, during his recent visit to India, had "himself
guaranteed that there will be no problems to the project". The 2135-km-long
pipeline would be built at a total cost of about seven billion US dollars, he
said. Deora said the government was also pursuing import of natural gas from
Iran in national interest in order to meet energy requirements. He said the
Joint Working Group between India and Pakistan had been meeting regularly and
had last met in February. The technical sub-group also met in March and
discussed transit fee and transportation cost. These meetings would continue,
the Minister said.
Venezuela denies isolation after IMF,
WBank withdrawal Venezuela's Finance Minister Rodrigo Cabezas on
Wednesday denied that Venezuela will be isolated following its announced
withdrawal from the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. The
withdrawal decision was based on "economic ... and national sovereignty,"
Cabezas said in an interview with a radio. The finance minister also dismissed
remarks Tuesday by US State Department spokesman Sean McCormack that the move
would hurt the Venezuelan people and lead to economic isolation. "On the
contrary," Cabezas said. "We will continue to increase Venezuelan ties in
concert with other nations with the widest freedom possible now," he said.
Cabezas mentioned increased economic ties with China, India, Russia and Iran as
proof of Venezuela's improved foreign economic relations.
President Hugo Chavez on Monday announced that Venezuela was to withdraw from
the global lenders, calling them "tools of US imperialism" and claiming they are
dominated since their conception by the United States and Europe. "The IMF and
World Bank have been giving their backs to Latin American countries and thus
this reaction," Cabezas said. "Today the most important countries in Latin
America -- Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela -- do not have debts with the IMF."
Cabezas added that Venezuela's fees to the IMF, which are between 220 and 250
million dollars, will be returned once the withdrawal is complete. Chavez
announced in mid-April that all Venezuelan debts with the World Bank had been
paid. Since 1999 Caracas has adopted a policy of not taking out any new debts
with either institution.

This wall is their grave Plans for Al-Adhamiyah confirm that the US occupation and its puppets in Iraq can build nothing but open-air prisons. It will fail. No military strategy can impose on the Iraqi people an occupation it overwhelmingly refuses. Its resistance is national and continues. What kind of government walls-in its own people? One desperate and illegitimate, tied to the fate of a defeated occupation. The latest US ploy to subjugate Baghdad — exemplified in plans to wall-in the district of Al-Adhamiyah — reveals in clarity the Great Lie of the US-led occupation of Iraq. This is nothing more than the implementation of apartheid and sectarianism by a foreign military police state, aimed to break the will of Iraqis who refuse to cede their country, its resources and future to foreign powers and their local lackeys. Neither this tactic nor others will defeat the heroic resistance of the Iraqi people, which is borne both of situation and history, culture and progress. Sectarianism and apartheid cannot break the geopolitical unity of Iraq , which is a historical, social, economic and cultural reality.
Al-masri killed …Again First of all, don’t believe all this crap about Al-masri, because he is alive in a jail in Egypt, Egyptian government moved him into another prison and keep in isolation. In The Philippines Bush's War On Terror Has Become A War Of Terror The War Of Terror the U.S. is inflicting on the Philippine people through its blanket support for Arroyo and the Philippine Military and National Police is also a War On The Poor as the targets are generally those concerned with the poverty issue and the beneficiaries of the killings would seem to be those that don't want change, the rich and foreign capital or corporate interests.
Missile Defense Obsession Lessens U.S. Security It is sad to see the United States beg and give payoffs to European allies to assume an even greater burden in protecting them, while pursuing policies that could damage relations with Russia and fuel a possible arms race. Plans for U.S. missile defenses should be scrapped.

How Safe Is Bt Cotton For Livestock? The Genetic Engineering Approval Committee [GEAC], the apex regulatory body for GM crops in the country whose mandate is to assess the biosafety of every product that it allows for release into the environment, did not pursue the matter beyond discussing it in a couple of meetings, that too under pressure from civil society groups. The Department of Biotechnology [DBT], a strong advocate of GM crops, was instructed by the GEAC to take up a systematic foliar material feeding toxicity study. The DBT found many excuses for not doing so! Other than prescribing such foliar toxicity studies for future biosafety assessment, the GEAC ordered no such studies by the Bt Cotton companies nor did it keep other issues in abeyance until some transparent, scientific, independent and systematic investigations were completed. It was business as usual for the regulators and the industry.
